Moulding Application Cheat Sheet:

Crowns

  • Crown - RMCM, RMCM5, AND RMCM6
    • Standard crowns of various heights used to trim the transition between wall and ceiling
  • Rams Crown – RMRC
    • An alternative crown option. Can be used for standard crown, but more commonly used above windows and doors as a decorative crown.

Moulds

  • Brick Mould – RMBRM17 / RMBRM!8
    • Moulding used in exterior construction to frame the perimeter of windows and doors. But, more commonly used for doors. 
  • Rake Mould – RMRM
    • Moulding used on the inclined/sloped end of a gable roof. Installed over the fascia and below the soffit. 
  • Bed Mould – RMBM
    • A shallow crown like moulding that is often used as the build-up of a decorative crown
  • Shingle Mould – RMSM
    • Moulding used below the roof line. Installed over the fascia and below the soffit.

Decorative

  • Scotia/Cove – RMSCO
    • A simple scotia/cove profile used in corners to hide gaps between transitions
  • Quarter Round – RMQR
    • A simple quarter round used in corners to hide gaps between transitions
  • Square – RMSQ
    • A simple square profile used in corners to hide gaps between transitions
  • Base Cap – RMBC
    • A decorative detail used on top of square trim for base detail, or between trim for raised panel columns.
  • Drip Cap – RMDC
    • A sloped surface with a drip edge to shed water from flat transition pieces. Often used above and below windows, above doors, and above wainscotings.
  • Sill Nose – RMSN
    • A decorative sill installed below the window

Thermostops

  • Garage Door Stops - RMGDS / RMGDSBLACK
    • A 1-5/16” trim with a flexible plastic that helps to seal the garage door trim from wind and rain

Fasteners: 

6D or 8D galvanized nails or pneumatic nailer with stainless steel heads

Fasten nails 12" O.C., approximately 3/4" from the edge

PVC Glue:

Temperature variations will cause PVC to expand or contract, so it's recommended to glue all joints and miters using a high-quality instant glue or PVC cement.

Painting PVC:

Restoration Millwork PVC does not require painting for protection, but it can be painted with 100% acrylic latex paint to achieve custom colors.  A second coat may be needed to achieve desired colors.  Dark colors are not recommended with PVC, so be sure to check what's allowed before painting.
